Technology and Features of HNDRD Pickleball Paddles
HNDRD pickleball paddles are engineered for top-tier performance, durability, and comfort. Each paddle combines advanced materials with smart design to enhance control, power, and gameplay. Here’s a look at the technology behind HNDRD paddles:
ZeroEdge
Paddles with this technology:
- Zephyr 70
- Zephyr 80
ZeroEdge is HNDRD’s unique edge-free paddle design offering a sleek look and faster swing. Without an edge guard, the paddle cuts through the air more easily, giving you quicker, more precise shots.
EdgeSecure
Paddles with this technology:
- Zephyr 20
- Vigor 100
- Phantom 20
- Phantom 60
- Phantom 80
EdgeSecure is all about durability. It adds a protective shield around your paddle to prevent it from chipping or cracking. Plus, it adds a little weight to the paddle’s head, giving you more power with every shot.
PolyCore
Paddles with this technology:
- All HNDRD pickleball paddles
PolyCore is the honeycomb-shaped core at the centre of every HNDRD paddle. It’s designed to give you the perfect balance of power, control and durability, so you can deliver consistent, solid shots whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player.
AeroBoost
Paddles with this technology:
- Zephyr 70
- Zephyr 80
Want to swing faster? AeroBoost is your secret weapon. This smart cutout near the handle reduces air drag, allowing your paddle to move more quickly. This means quicker reactions, more accurate shots, and a turbocharged swing.
CntrlFoam
Paddles with this technology:
- Zephyr 70
- Zephyr 80
CntrlFoam acts as built-in cushioning, absorbing vibrations to reduce hand shock. It also helps channel more power into your shots for a smoother, more controlled feel.

WIDE vs EXTEND Paddles
When choosing a HNDRD pickleball paddle, the WIDE and EXTEND options may be a little confusing. However, once you understand their differences, it’ll be easy to pick the one that best suits your game. Let’s break it down!
| WIDE | EXTEND | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Broader, more rounded | Longer, more elongated |
| Sweet spot | Larger and more forgiving | Smaller but more precise |
| Ideal for | ||
| Reach | Less reach, better for quick net exchanges | More reach, great for covering the court |
| Swing speed | Slightly slower due to the wider shape | Faster, more agile swing speed |
| Power | Balanced with more control | Extra power, but less forgiving |
WIDE Paddles
Shape: The WIDE paddle has a broader, more rounded shape. This design gives you a larger sweet spot (the area of the paddle that delivers the best hit), making it more forgiving for off-centre shots.
Ideal for: Players who are still getting the hang of control and precision, or those who play doubles and need a bit of extra help with consistent, quick shots near the net.
Advantages:
- More forgiveness for mishits
- Easier to hit the ball consistently
- Great for players who want extra stability in their game
Feel: Slightly larger and wider, providing more surface area for hitting the ball, which can be more comfortable for those learning to control the paddle.
EXTEND Paddles
Shape: The EXTEND paddle has a longer, more elongated shape, offering extra reach. This design helps you cover more ground and is great for players who love to attack from the baseline or want more court coverage.
Ideal for: Players who prefer singles or aggressive baseline play, especially those who want more reach and power in their shots.
Advantages:
- More reach and control from the baseline
- Faster swing speed for quick shots
- Allows for a more aggressive attack on the ball
Feel: The extended shape offers a slightly narrower sweet spot, but rewards clean, powerful shots with greater control and power.
Which One Should You Choose?
It depends on your play style and skill level!
- Choose the WIDE paddle if you prefer extra forgiveness and stability, especially if you’re just starting out or playing doubles.
- Choose the EXTEND paddle if you’re looking for more reach, power, and speed, and if you love playing singles or need more control for baseline attacks.
FAQs About HNDRD Pickleball Paddles
What is the difference between 13mm and 16mm pickleball paddles?
13mm pickleball paddles are perfect for players who want speed and power in their shots. A thinner core means the ball rebounds faster, giving you that extra pop, making it great for aggressive plays and fast reactions.
If you're all about control, precision, and a softer touch, 16mm pickleball paddles will give you the upper hand. A thicker core provides more stability and reach, making it easier to place the ball exactly where you want it.
What is the difference between short and long handles?
Short handles gives you more control and manoeuvrability, allowing you to steer the paddle more easily and make precise shots. It’s great for players who want to focus on quick reactions and net play. If you like to play close to the kitchen and need sharp wrist movements for dinks, volleys, and fast shots, the short handle will give you that extra agility.
On the other hand, a long handle gives you more reach and power. It’s perfect for players who like to play from the baseline or need that added reach to return difficult shots. If you have a two-handed backhand or love to swing hard, a longer handle will help you maximise your swing speed and shot depth.
What is the difference between Quantum T700 and GraphiteLab face material?
Quantum T700 is a premium carbon fibre that excels in strength and stiffness, allowing for maximum power transfer. This means you can hit your shots with both precision and power. The durability of Quantum T700 makes it perfect for players who want consistent performance on every swing.
On the other hand, GraphiteLab uses a mid-grade carbon fibre that offers a perfect balance of power, control, and playability. It's particularly great for players who want consistent performance with a bit of finesse. The material enhances spin potential, giving you the ability to add extra control to your shots.
What is the difference between CoolCast and ThermoCast?
CoolCast is a casting technology that reduces energy use and gives your paddle excellent durability and a balanced weight, which translates to better control on the court. You’ll find CoolCast technology in models like the Zephyr 20 and Vigor 100.
ThermoCast uses heat compression technology to create a paddle that maximises control, power, and spin. It’s found in the Phantom 20 and Phantom 60 models, both designed to deliver high-performance results, especially for aggressive or fast-paced play.
What do the numbers mean in HNDRD pickleball paddle’s names?
The numbers in the names of HNDRD pickleball paddles typically represent the performance tier or intensity within each paddle series. In simple terms:
- Higher numbers = More advanced performance and increased power designed for experienced players who focus on aggressive, fast-paced play.
- Lower numbers = Lighter, quicker paddles built for finesse, offering a more controlled, strategic approach to the game, perfect for beginners or those refining their skills.
